The Joy of Giving and Receiving
On the morning of 11 June the excited anticipation of the 75 girls and young ladies was crackling in the air like electricity!
Hosting the girls from various children’s homes and places of safety around Cape Town was made possible by the generous donations of our parishioners, family and friends.
The Savio hall was outfitted like a boutique with rails of clothing, shoes, underwear, accessories, cosmetics and toiletries.
The girls each received a booklet of vouchers to ‘shop’ and boy did they shop!!
Shopping assistants were on hand to assist the girls with their purchases and in the fitting rooms.
Entertainment in the courtyard was provided by Bernadette Adams (aka Phoenix) giving the girls time to relax, socialize andshow iff their purchases. Lunch and snacks were served afterwards and before they knew it, it was time to say goodbye. Girls were sad to leave but excited to get back to their homes so that the modeling shows can start!!
The simple act of being able to choose an item of clothing for yourself – something we take for granted – brought so much joy we can’t even begin to comprehend.
Thank you to:
• the directors of the children’s homes and places of safety for allowing the girls and young ladies to participate in this event
• OLHC Parishioners for their generous donations
• Bernadette Adams aka Phoenix for the wonderful entertainment
• the parishioners, family and friends who assisted with the preparation of the clothing, setting up and then dismantling and cleaning up after the event
• the catering team
• everyone who assisted with transportation
